Maternity photographer in Sydney
The industry version of maternity photography involves a studio, a silk gown and a wind machine. That is a fine thing; it is just not my thing. As a maternity photographer in Sydney I work in your house, in your clothes, in the light your kitchen already has.
A maternity photographer in Sydney who photographs the waiting
Thirty to thirty-four weeks tends to be the window. Bring your partner, your other children, the dog—the record is better when it is honest about who lives there. If you want the wind machine, I am probably not your person, and I can suggest people who are.
Sessions run an hour or so, unhurried. The photographs are of the last weeks of one life and the first of another, and they deserve more than a backdrop.
A few things people ask
When should we book a maternity session?
Around 30 to 34 weeks tends to work well — enough of a bump to photograph, enough energy for a session. Earlier is fine if you want to document the whole arc. Later works too, as long as you are comfortable.
Where does the session happen?
Somewhere that feels like yours. At home, in a garden, a beach you know, somewhere with meaning. Not a studio, unless that is what you want. The photographs are better when the location is right.
How long is a maternity session?
About an hour — sometimes a little less if that is what you need, sometimes a little more if things are going well. Unhurried is the point.
Can my partner and other children be in the session?
Yes. Bring whoever you want there. The work is documentary — I photograph what is actually happening, and families usually make for better photographs than solo portraits anyway.
